Adromischus Silver Tube

Adromischus Silver Tube is a compact succulent with thick, fleshy grey-green to silvery-green leaves marked with fine darker spotting and mottling. The leaves vary from broad and flattened to somewhat elongated, with mature plants gradually developing numerous closely packed growing points.

Silver-Green Spotted Foliage

The fleshy leaves have a softly muted grey-green appearance and are typically patterned with fine green, brownish or purplish markings. Individual leaves vary naturally in shape, with some remaining broad and rounded while others become longer and more tapered.

Under brighter growing conditions, the leaf margins and tips can develop reddish to burgundy colouring, providing stronger contrast against the paler foliage. The amount of spotting and pigmentation varies between individual plants and according to season and growing conditions.

Compact Branching Growth

Silver Tube develops short branching stems and gradually forms dense clusters of leaves. New growth remains concentrated around the growing points, while established plants can produce numerous branches and become considerably broader with age.

As with other Adromischus, mature plants can produce slender upright flower stems carrying small tubular flowers. The foliage remains the principal identifying feature of plants cultivated under the Silver Tube name.

The Silver Tube Name

Silver Tube is a horticultural name used for this form of Adromischus. Its species identification is inconsistent in horticultural references, where plants under this name have been variously associated with Adromischus cooperi, the closely related historical name Adromischus festivus, and Adromischus cristatus.

Without reliable provenance establishing the origin of our particular stock, we prefer to retain the established horticultural name Adromischus Silver Tube rather than assign it to a species that may be incorrect.

Growing Adromischus Silver Tube

Grow in a free-draining succulent mix in a bright position with good airflow. Good light helps maintain compact growth and can encourage stronger spotting and reddish to burgundy colouring around the leaf margins and tips. Acclimatise plants gradually before exposure to intense direct sun.

Water thoroughly when required and allow the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Avoid prolonged waterlogging, particularly during cooler conditions. The fleshy leaves store moisture well, allowing established plants to tolerate periods of dryness.

Please note: From our experience growing, handling and shipping this variety of Adromischus, we consider it well suited to shipping. However, individual leaves can occasionally detach if the plant is physically disturbed during transit or unpacking. A small amount of leaf drop can therefore occur and does not in itself indicate that the plant is unhealthy.

In the wild, leaf detachment and subsequent rooting is a natural means of vegetative reproduction in Adromischus, helping the plants reproduce and persist in their natural habitat. If leaves become detached from your plant, simply lay the healthy leaves on the surface of a free-draining succulent mix in bright, protected light. New roots and shoots will often develop from the base of the leaf over the following weeks. Once roots and new growth begin to develop, gently nestle them into the growing medium and allow the new plant to establish.
