Aeonium arboreum ‘Green Rose’ is a striking succulent admired for its large, perfectly symmetrical rosettes of smooth, emerald-green leaves. A cultivar of Aeonium arboreum, it combines the sculptural form of its parent species with a lush, tree-like structure that makes it an exceptional feature in gardens, courtyards, and containers. Its robust, woody stems can reach around 1 m in height with a spread of 60–90 cm, topped by rosettes that remain vividly green throughout the year.

Native Aeonium arboreum originates from the Canary Islands, where mild, coastal conditions encourage steady growth. In Australia, ‘Green Rose’ thrives in temperate to warm climates, especially when positioned in bright, indirect light or morning sun with afternoon shade during the hottest months. Unlike variegated cultivars, this selection’s foliage is completely green, giving it a clean, architectural presence suited to modern landscape design.

During late winter to early spring, mature plants may produce tall, conical clusters of small, star-shaped yellow flowers, adding seasonal interest. Like other Aeoniums, it may enter summer dormancy, with leaves retracting into tighter rosettes to conserve moisture—a normal, adaptive behaviour.

For best results, plant in a free-draining succulent mix enriched with coarse sand or pumice. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering in summer when growth slows. A light application of balanced fertiliser in spring and autumn will support healthy growth.

‘Green Rose’ is considered non-toxic, making it safe for households with pets and children. Easy to propagate from stem cuttings, it’s a long-lived, low-maintenance choice for anyone seeking an elegant, evergreen succulent that delivers year-round form and colour with minimal care.
