Aeonium Leucoblepharum (Yemen form)
Aeonium leucoblepharum (Yemen form) is a distinctive species Aeonium with beautifully marked rosettes and a character quite different from the many modern hybrids in cultivation. Its spoon-shaped to pointed leaves are predominantly fresh green, often developing warm pink to reddish margins, while the characteristic dark red to maroon stripe running lengthwise along the leaf creates an unmistakable contrast.
Colour & Growth
The Yemen form develops branching, somewhat open stems topped with attractive rosettes, gradually forming a sculptural succulent shrub. Colour can change considerably with the seasons and growing conditions. Brighter light, cooler weather and mild environmental stress can strengthen the reddish margins and central markings, while actively growing plants may become noticeably greener.
Unlike many familiar Aeoniums originating in the Canary Islands, Aeonium leucoblepharum has a natural distribution extending through parts of northeast Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, including Yemen. This unusual geographic origin, together with its strongly marked foliage, makes it an interesting choice for collectors wanting something beyond the more familiar Aeonium arboreum cultivars.
Growing Aeonium leucoblepharum
Grow in a bright position with good airflow and freely draining succulent soil. Morning sun or bright filtered light is particularly suitable, although established plants can take stronger sun once acclimatised. As with other Aeoniums, growth is generally strongest through the cooler part of the year and may slow considerably during hot weather.
Water thoroughly during active growth, then allow the mix to partially dry before watering again. Reduce watering when growth slows in summer and avoid leaving the roots continually wet. Protect from significant frost and prolonged exposure to extreme heat. Established branching plants can also be propagated readily from stem cuttings.

Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
