Cereus Snowcapped (Cereus repandus cv. Snowcapped) is a striking cultivar of the South American native Cereus repandus, renowned for its tall, sculptural form and waxy, blue-green stems that appear as though dusted with snow. This unusual appearance, caused by a dense, glaucous bloom on the surface, gives the plant its distinctive name and makes it a standout in any succulent or cactus collection.
Often forming candelabra-like clusters from the base, Cereus Snowcapped typically features 5 to 9 prominent ribs per stem, which rise vertically with occasional branching. While the original clone introduced to Europe in the 1980s had short spines, many modern specimens are seed-grown and may display longer, more varied spination and a deeper blue-green colour. These plants are sometimes thought to have hybridised with other Cereus species, such as Cereus stenogonus, adding to their diversity in form and colour.
In summer, mature plants produce large, fragrant white flowers that bloom at night—a stunning spectacle for any collector. If pollinated, the blooms give way to edible, spineless purple fruits. With rapid growth and a need for space, Cereus Snowcapped thrives in well-draining soil and benefits from full sun and regular watering during its active growth phase. It is sensitive to frost and best suited to warm, sheltered positions in Australia, especially in frost-free areas or with protection during colder months.
