Cremneria ‘Scaphylla’ is a striking hybrid succulent, believed to be a cross between Cremnophila and Echeveria, combining the vigour and hardiness of both parent genera into a single, sculptural rosette. Known for its fast growth and distinctive foliage, this plant is an excellent choice for collectors and beginners alike, adding bold texture and colour to any succulent display.

Its rosette forms from chunky, fleshy leaves arranged in a perfect spiral, each leaf a soft, glossy green tipped with vibrant red. These tips intensify dramatically when the plant is exposed to environmental stressors such as drought, cold nights, or high light levels, creating a living display of seasonal colour. This natural response, a form of protective pigmentation, adds to its ornamental appeal and makes Cremneria ‘Scaphylla’ a dynamic feature plant throughout the year.

Adapted to dry conditions, it thrives on neglect once established. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings, and reduce watering altogether during cold winter months. Like most succulents, it requires a free-draining potting mix to prevent root rot and prefers a bright position in full sun or partial shade. Feeding with a diluted liquid seaweed solution from April to September encourages vigorous growth and vibrant colouration.

With its rapid growth rate, Cremneria ‘Scaphylla’ can reach around 30 cm tall and wide in less than a year, often outgrowing its pot and rewarding growers with impressive size and presence. It is ideal for a sunny windowsill, patio container, or rockery, where its bold form and shifting tones can be fully appreciated. This hybrid’s resilience, colour, and architectural beauty make it a standout choice for Australian succulent gardens.
