Echeveria 'Choux Cream' Crested, also known as Echeveria 'Cream Puff' Crested, is the crested form of a relatively recent Korean hybrid distinguished by exceptionally thick, fleshy foliage and soft cream, blue-green and pastel colouring. In the crested form, the normal growing point becomes fasciated, producing broadened and irregular growth that can develop into densely folded crests, multiple rosette-like heads, or a combination of both.

Thick, Chubby Leaves & Soft Seasonal Colour

'Choux Cream' is particularly distinctive for its unusually thick, swollen leaves. The foliage is naturally substantial and moisture-filled, with a soft waxy bloom that gives the surface a powdery appearance. Colour can range from pale blue-green and grey-green through creamy yellow and soft blush tones, with pink becoming more noticeable around the tips and portions of the foliage under suitable seasonal conditions.

The crested form concentrates these fleshy leaves into numerous closely packed growing points. As the plant develops, the combination of thick foliage and irregular crested growth creates a substantially different appearance from the conventional rosette form.

Fasciation & Variable Crested Growth

Cresting, also known as fasciation, occurs when the normal growing point becomes broadened and develops laterally rather than continuing as a single rounded growth point. The resulting growth can take several forms, and individual plants do not necessarily develop identical crests.

Some plants develop a continuous, convoluted crest in which the growing points merge into a broad, twisting structure and individual rosettes become difficult to distinguish. Others develop a widened crested base carrying numerous more clearly defined rosette-like heads. The two forms can also occur together, with strongly fasciated growth accompanied by individual rosettes on the same plant.

These differences are a natural part of crested development. As the plant matures, its form can continue to change as new growing points develop and the crest broadens, branches or folds.

The regular rosette form is also available as Echeveria 'Choux Cream' when in stock. It displays the same unusually thick foliage and soft seasonal colouring in its conventional rosette form.

Hardy & Easy to Grow

In our nursery we have found 'Choux Cream' to be a hardy, reliable and easy-growing succulent. The thick leaves hold substantial moisture reserves, helping established plants tolerate periods between watering and providing considerable stored resources for new growth.

Grow in a free-draining succulent mix with good airflow and plenty of light. Good light helps maintain compact growth and encourages the cream, pink and pastel colouring characteristic of the cultivar. Plants should be acclimatised gradually when moving from protected conditions into substantially stronger light or intense Australian summer sun.

Water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. The dense structure of a crest can hold moisture between its closely packed leaves, so good airflow is particularly useful and prolonged moisture trapped within the crested growth should be avoided during cool or humid conditions.

Propagation

'Choux Cream' propagates readily from its thick, fleshy leaves and, in our nursery, leaf propagation frequently produces multiple growing points rather than a single rosette. Our original crested plants were themselves produced from individual leaves, demonstrating that leaf propagation can also produce new fasciated growth in this cultivar.

Leaf propagation does not, however, provide certainty that a new plant will develop a particular growth form. Leaf-propagated plants may develop as a conventional rosette, produce multiple individual heads, become fasciated, or develop a combination of crested and rosette growth as they mature.

Where the aim is to reproduce an existing crest more directly, a cutting taken from established crested growth is the preferred method. Select a healthy section containing viable stem tissue and active crested growth, allow the cut surface to dry and form a firm callus, then establish it in a free-draining succulent mix.

Shipping & Dispatch

All plants are shipped bare rooted unless otherwise stated. Orders are carefully packed and shipped via Express Post to NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and ACT. Orders are dispatched according to our weekly shipping schedule, available on our Shipping page, with tracking provided once your order has been lodged with Australia Post.

Seasonal Colour & Plant Variation

Succulents naturally change in colour, size and form throughout the year. Many develop richer colours and more compact growth during periods of seasonal stress, particularly through cooler months and brighter conditions, while warmer or lower-light conditions may produce greener, softer growth.

The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.

Pickup Information

Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
