Graptopetalum 'Purple Delight' Variegated (Yellow Variegation)

Graptopetalum 'Purple Delight' Variegated (Yellow Variegation) forms elegant rosettes of fleshy leaves in soft purple, lilac, green and creamy yellow. Its colours can shift with the seasons, with the pale areas sometimes developing warm peach, orange and pink tones. Two distinct variegation options let you choose between an unpredictable, individually patterned plant and a rarer, exceptionally balanced rosette.

Available as Regular Variegation or Premium Extreme Variegation. Please select your preferred option from the menu above the Add to Cart button. The photographs show examples of both forms so you can compare their patterns.

Regular Variegation: Different on Every Leaf

Regular Variegation has a wonderfully varied mix of purple, green and creamy yellow. One leaf may be divided almost perfectly into two colours, while its neighbours show fine streaks, broader sections or mottled markings. The pattern changes across the rosette, giving each plant an individual appearance that rewards a closer look.

With a greater proportion of green tissue, this form is generally more vigorous and forgiving. We recommend it for growers beginning their collection of variegated succulents, as well as anyone who particularly enjoys lively, unpredictable variegation.

Premium Extreme Variegation: Beautifully Balanced

Premium Extreme Variegation is the rarer option and has a remarkably uniform pattern. Many leaves carry a smoky purple to green centre framed by broad, pale cream margins, repeating around the rosette to create a strikingly symmetrical appearance. In brighter or somewhat drier conditions, the pale margins can flush soft orange and pink.

These plants have less chlorophyll in their leaves and generally grow more slowly than the Regular Variegation form. They need a little more attention to light and watering, making them especially appealing to collectors experienced with highly variegated succulents.

Changing Colour and Graceful Growth

A fine powdery coating of natural farina gives the pointed leaves a soft, frosted finish. Light, temperature and growing conditions influence the colours, so a plant may display cooler lilac tones at one time of year and warmer pink or peach highlights at another. Handle the foliage gently where possible to preserve its even powdery appearance.

As it matures, the plant can form rosettes on lengthening stems, developing a graceful, slightly spreading habit. Mature plants may also produce delicate, star-shaped flowers.

Growing Graptopetalum 'Purple Delight' Variegated

Grow in a free-draining succulent mix with bright light and good airflow. Gentle sun can encourage compact growth and richer colour, but acclimatise plants gradually and protect the pale foliage from harsh afternoon sun during hot Australian summers. The Premium Extreme form benefits from a particularly bright but sheltered position.

Water thoroughly when required, allowing the mix to dry appropriately between waterings. Check the pot rather than watering to a fixed schedule, especially with the slower-growing Premium Extreme form, and protect plants from prolonged winter wet and heavy frost.
