Sale price $16.50 Regular price $24.50

Pachyphytum 'Yeonji' is a captivating succulent admired for its beautifully plump foliage and striking combination of soft green, creamy yellow, peach and ruby-red colouring. Its attractive rosettes and distinctive leaf shapes make it a wonderful addition to any collection of colourful and unusual succulents.

Beautiful Plump Leaves and Attractive Rosettes

The outstanding feature of Pachyphytum 'Yeonji' is its thick, fleshy foliage, arranged in attractive, closely packed rosettes. The leaves have an interesting variation in shape, with shorter, rounded leaves often appearing towards the centre and more elongated, slightly pointed leaves forming the outer sections of mature rosettes.

This combination creates a beautifully layered appearance, with the smooth, water-storing leaves giving the plant a full and substantial look. As it matures, 'Yeonji' may develop short stems and additional growth around the base, gradually forming a more established specimen.

Remarkable Seasonal Colour Transformations

One of the most appealing characteristics of Pachyphytum 'Yeonji' is its ability to display a remarkable range of colours throughout the year. The foliage may vary from soft green and creamy yellow to peach, pink and rich ruby-red, sometimes with several shades appearing together on the same plant.

During warmer periods, plants may develop attractive yellow-green leaves with delicate pink or reddish tips. Cooler temperatures and stronger sunlight can encourage deeper red pigmentation, which may spread further across the leaves, creating beautiful contrasts with the lighter foliage.

These colour changes are not determined by the seasons alone. Sunlight exposure, temperature, moisture availability and general growing conditions can all influence the intensity and distribution of the pigmentation. Individual plants may therefore look noticeably different at various times of the year, adding to the fascination of growing this colourful cultivar.

Origins and Horticultural Interest

Pachyphytum 'Yeonji' is a cultivated succulent associated with Korean horticulture, although its precise parentage and breeding history are not clearly documented.

The genus Pachyphytum originates from Mexico and is particularly admired for its thick, fleshy leaves. The name itself refers to this characteristic, which is beautifully demonstrated by 'Yeonji'. Its distinctive foliage makes it especially appealing to collectors who appreciate unusual leaf forms and colourful succulents.

Growing Pachyphytum 'Yeonji'

Pachyphytum 'Yeonji' grows well in bright light and can adapt to sunny conditions when gradually acclimatised. Adequate sunlight helps maintain compact growth, while plants grown in lower light may become more elongated.

Grow in a free-draining succulent potting mix and water thoroughly when required, allowing the soil to dry appropriately between waterings. Its thick leaves store moisture efficiently, so avoid keeping the roots continuously wet. Adjust watering according to seasonal growth, temperature and the rate at which the potting mix dries.

During periods of extreme heat or cold, growth may slow and watering requirements may decrease. Protect plants from severe frost and prolonged cold, wet conditions. When handling or repotting, take care not to damage the plump leaves, which may detach if knocked or handled roughly.

With its distinctive foliage, attractive rosette formation and ever-changing colours, Pachyphytum 'Yeonji' is a delightful succulent that offers lasting appeal in decorative pots and specialist collections.

Seasonal Colour & Plant Variation

Succulents naturally change in colour, size and form throughout the year. Many develop richer colours and more compact growth during periods of seasonal stress, particularly through cooler months and brighter conditions, while warmer or lower-light conditions may produce greener, softer growth.

The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.
