Rebutia pulvinosa, also known as Crown Cactus, is a small, ball-shaped cactus that is perfect for those starting with cactus cultivation. Native to the high elevations of South America, this cactus is known for its ease of growth and beautiful, frequent blooming.
Quickly growing into a clump of 10 cm in height and width, within two years, under favourable conditions, the Rebutia pulvinosa has a distinctive appearance, with its small, fuzzy, bright green stems that grow in clusters. In the spring and summer months, this plant produces striking, bright orange/gold flowers that emerge from the base of the plant or between individual stems in the same cluster, adding to its beauty.
Caring for the 'Crown Cactus' is easy, as it prefers bright light and a well-draining cactus mix soil. During the growing season, from spring to fall, let the soil almost completely dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly. In winter, cut back on watering to avoid root rot. Additionally, fertilize during the growing season with a cacti fertilizer for the best results.
Propagation is simple, as offsets are readily produced in clusters around the base of the mother plant. To propagate, carefully remove the offset and allow the cut to dry for a few days. Once a callous has formed, plant in a well-draining potting soil mix and keep it in a warm place until new roots emerge.
Rebutia pulvinosa makes a great addition to any cactus collection, and with its ease of care and stunning blooms, it is a must-have for any cactus enthusiast. With its unique appearance and frequent blooms, this cactus is sure to add a touch of beauty to any space.
