Cotyledon 'Green Peach'

Regular price $10.50

Cotyledon 'Green Peach' is an attractive compact succulent admired for its plump, softly pointed leaves, fresh green colouring and contrasting burgundy to chocolate-brown tips. As the plant matures it branches readily from the base, gradually developing into a dense cluster of fleshy leaves with a wonderfully substantial appearance.

Plump Green Leaves & Richly Coloured Tips

The foliage is the main attraction of 'Green Peach'. Thick, succulent leaves are held closely together on short branching stems, with colours ranging from fresh green to soft grey-green. Under brighter light and cooler conditions, the tips and upper portions of the leaves can develop attractive bronze, burgundy and reddish-brown tones, creating a strong contrast with the greener centres.

A fine natural bloom may be present on the foliage, softening the colours and giving some leaves a slightly muted appearance. As with many succulents, colour and leaf shape can vary according to season, light, watering and growing conditions.

Beautiful Red Bell-Shaped Flowers

Mature plants can produce an impressive floral display on slender stems held well above the foliage. Numerous nodding buds gradually open into small bell-shaped to tubular flowers in warm red to reddish-orange tones, with recurved petal tips revealing the flower's delicate structure. The contrast between the red flowers and plump green foliage makes 'Green Peach' particularly attractive when in bloom.

Botanical Background

'Green Peach' is circulated in cultivation as a named Cotyledon selection, although reliable published information documenting its original breeder, selection history or exact parentage appears to be limited. Its foliage, branching habit and flowers show characteristics associated with the naturally variable southern African Cotyledons, but without a documented provenance we prefer to retain the established horticultural name Cotyledon 'Green Peach' rather than assign it to a particular species without sufficient evidence.

The genus Cotyledon is native to southern Africa and includes a fascinating range of drought-adapted succulents. Many species and cultivated forms display considerable variation in leaf size, shape and colour, with stronger reddish or brown pigmentation often developing under brighter light and seasonal stress.

Growing Cotyledon 'Green Peach'

Grow 'Green Peach' in a bright position with good airflow and a free-draining succulent mix. Plenty of light helps maintain compact growth and encourages the attractive darker colouring at the leaf tips. Plants can tolerate direct sun once acclimatised, although some protection from exceptionally harsh Australian summer afternoon sun may be beneficial, particularly for plants previously grown under cover.

Water thoroughly when required, then allow the growing medium to dry well before watering again. Avoid keeping the roots continually moist, especially during cooler weather. Heavy feeding is unnecessary; moderate nutrition and good light encourage sturdy, compact growth rather than overly soft or elongated foliage.

An Attractive Clumping Cotyledon

With its chunky green foliage, contrasting burgundy tips, naturally branching habit and colourful red flowers, Cotyledon 'Green Peach' offers interest throughout the year. Young plants are appealing in small pots, while established specimens become increasingly impressive as additional branches develop and the plant forms a full, multi-headed cluster.

Seasonal Colour & Plant Variation

Succulents naturally change in colour, size and form throughout the year. Many develop richer colours and more compact growth during periods of seasonal stress, particularly through cooler months and brighter conditions, while warmer or lower-light conditions may produce greener, softer growth.

The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.
