About Cotyledon woodii
Cotyledon woodii is an attractive South African succulent with slender, branching stems and fleshy green leaves. As the stems lengthen, the plant develops a spreading to trailing habit that works particularly well in pots, mixed succulent arrangements and positions where its stems can grow naturally over the edge of a container.
Established plants can develop attractive warm orange to reddish flowers, adding another feature to this easy-growing species. Its branching habit also means that plants can become fuller over time as new growth develops along the stems.
Growing from Cuttings
Cotyledon woodii is particularly well suited to propagation from semi-hardwood stem cuttings. Each cutting provides an established section of stem from which roots and new shoots can develop, allowing you to grow a well-branched plant while enjoying the process from its early stages.
Plant the cuttings into a free-draining succulent mix after allowing any fresh cut surfaces to dry and callus. Keep them in bright, filtered light while they establish and water sparingly at first, allowing the growing medium to dry between waterings. Once established and actively growing, the plants can gradually be introduced to stronger light.
As the cuttings establish, new growth develops from the stems and gradually creates the characteristic branching and trailing form of Cotyledon woodii. With two cuttings supplied, they can be planted together for a fuller display or grown separately to establish individual plants.
