Crassula nudicaulis var. herrei, also known as Crassula herrei, is a charming dwarf succulent sub shrub native to South Africa from Western Cape Province to large areas surrounding the Orange River.
This plant's most distinctive feature is its tightly packed thick glabrous leaves which are semi-circular in section and 30-40mm long, that take on a stunning intense red to burgundy hue on the leaf tips and margins, when subjected to bright light, significantly deepening in colour when under stress.
Boasting a unique and attractive structural form, Crassula herrei can reach a maximum height of 20cm over the course of several years. It offsets readily from its stems making it easy to propagate. It is also an incredibly low-maintenance plant that thrives with sparing watering.
When well watered and actively growing, the plant's foliage is typically green to yellow with pink edges and can vary significantly depending on sun exposure and stress. When the plant blooms in spring and summer, it produces small, green flowers clustered together.
Overall, Crassula nudicaulis var. herrei is an enchanting succulent that is sure to add a touch of beauty and charm to any indoor or outdoor space. Its compact size and easy care requirements make it a perfect choice for beginners, while its unique appearance and stunning coloration make it a favorite among succulent enthusiasts.
