Crassula orbicularis, a captivating succulent native to South Africa, belongs to the Crassulaceae family. This perennial is known for its charming, fleshy leaves that form rosettes. These leaves, which range from green to a deep bronze with delicate ciliate margins, often display a pink to red tinge along the edges and tips when exposed to bright light.

Thriving in various habitats from semi-deserts to afromontane forests, Crassula orbicularis is highly adaptable to different conditions, including frost, high temperatures, and low rainfall. It prefers well-drained, porous soil and can flourish in areas with light to moderate shade, making it an excellent choice for shade gardens.

This succulent produces tubular, white to pale yellow flowers that may have pink or reddish-brown hues. These flowers, appearing from June to November, emit a musty scent and attract pollinators like flies. Crassula orbicularis also spreads vegetatively by producing runners, forming dense clumps up to 50 cm in diameter.

In terms of care, Crassula orbicularis benefits from the "soak and dry" watering method and requires reduced watering in winter. It can tolerate temperatures as low as -1.1 °C. Minimal feeding with organic fertilizer in mid-spring supports its growth. Propagation is straightforward through leaf or stem cuttings and offsets, ensuring easy multiplication of this attractive plant.

With its low maintenance requirements and striking appearance, Crassula orbicularis is an ideal addition to any garden, providing year-round interest and versatility as a ground cover or ornamental plant.
