Echeveria pulvinata 'Frosty' Crest, botanically known as Echeveria. pulvinata 'Frosty' f. cristata, is a unique and eye-catching succulent that originates from the northeastern region of Mexico. This rare hybrid is a part of the Crassulaceae botanical family, and will add a touch of elegance to any indoor or outdoor space.
Characterized by its small shrubby structure, Echeveria pulvinata 'Frosty' Crest exhibits a distinctive fan-like appearance due to its crested form. Growing up to 15 cm in diameter and 30 cm in height, this succulent features lanceolate, pale green leaves covered with a dense layer of silvery-white hairs, giving it a frosted look. In late winter and early spring, the plant produces bell-shaped, yellow to orange flowers on racemes, supported by long stalks up to 30 cm tall.
Cultivating Echeveria pulvinata 'Frosty' Crest requires attention to its specific needs. It thrives in partial shade and should be sheltered from extreme temperatures, as it cannot tolerate temperatures below 10°C. To prevent root rot, use a well-draining soil mix containing pumice, clay, and loam, and ensure the pot has drainage holes. Water the plant every 7 days from March to November, allowing the soil to dry out completely between watering sessions. In winter, cease watering to let the plant enter dormancy.
For optimal growth, fertilize E. pulvinata 'Frosty' Crest once a month during the growing season with cactus-specific fertilizer, stopping during winter months. Repot the plant in a slightly larger pot early in the growing season if it outgrows its current container.
This exquisite succulent is an excellent choice for small gardens or indoor spaces, providing a striking contrast with its frosted appearance. It also thrives in rockeries with shallow soil and can be incorporated into various succulent arrangements in pots. With proper care, Echeveria pulvinata 'Frosty' Crest will make a beautiful and captivating addition to your collection of unique plants.
