Euphorbia polygona (w pups)
Euphorbia polygona is a striking succulent native to the grasslands of South Africa, particularly the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Commonly known as the “Snowflake Euphorbia” or “Japanese Cactus,” it stands out with its tall, columnar form and sharp-edged, deeply ridged stems. Despite its resemblance to cacti, it belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family and is known for its drought tolerance and resilience, making it a popular choice for both novice gardeners and seasoned collectors.
This eye-catching succulent can grow up to 1.5 meters tall, with multiple branching stems forming a polygonal shape. The stems are a greyish-green color, adorned with spiny ridges, giving the plant its signature geometric look. In spring and summer, Euphorbia polygona produces small, purplish flowers clustered at the tips of its stems. These flowers are encircled by colorful bracts, adding to the plant's ornamental appeal.
Ideal for rock gardens or as a potted specimen, Euphorbia polygona thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, sandy soils. This succulent is drought-tolerant and requires minimal watering, making it well-suited to Australia’s warm, dry climates. However, it is sensitive to frost and should be brought indoors or protected during colder months.
Care should be taken when handling Euphorbia polygona, as like other members of the genus, it produces a milky sap that can cause skin irritation. Despite this, it remains a low-maintenance, hardy plant that adds architectural interest to any garden or indoor space.

Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
