Graptosedum 'Bronze' is an intergeneric crossbreed hybrid, resulting from the union of Graptopetalum Paraguayensis and Sedum stahlii. This variety is also referred to as Graptosedum Alpenglow, Graptosedum Vera Higgins, or Sedum 'Bronze Delight'. Recognized for its petite size, this succulent displays captivating leaves of a reddish-bronze hue, spiraling around the stem, which contributes to its distinctive and appealing aesthetic. Despite its slow growth rate, it can eventually attain a height of up to 15 cm and is known for its ability to sprawl or cascade beautifully over pots or hanging baskets.

The leaves of Graptosedum 'Bronze' are flat on the upper surface, keeled below, and up to 1 cm long. They are obovate to lanceolate in shape and grow in rosettes. The plant resembles a Sedum due to the shape of its leaves, but it has taken the beautiful colors of Graptopetalum, the parent genus from which it was hybridized. The terminal clusters of pinkish flower buds open to reveal the 4-petaled yellow flowers in spring, adding another layer of charm to this already delightful plant.

Graptosedum 'Bronze' is easy to cultivate and can be grown indoors or outdoors. The plant prefers full sun exposure but should be protected from direct sunlight in the hottest periods. It does not like temperatures below 6°C, so it is recommended to bring it indoors during the coldest periods. The soil should be mixed with pumice, clay and loam to allow for proper drainage and to prevent root rot, a common issue for this species.

Watering is critical for this plant and should be done thoroughly. During the vegetative period, the plant should be watered every 7 days, ensuring that the soil is completely dry before watering again. In winter, watering should be stopped to allow the plant to enter dormancy. Fertilization is not necessary during winter, and only advised during the growing season, it is recommended to fertilize moderately with specific fertilizers for succulents. Repotting should be done every 2 years in a pot that is 2 cm wider, and it should be done early in the growing season with fresh new potting soil.

Propagation can be done by cutting or by seed. For cuttings, it is recommended to make the cut during the spring and then let the cutting dry; after a few days, the cut surface will dry, and a callus will form. Then, place the cutting in a mixture of sand, soil, and pumice. To increase the success of propagation, you can make two or more cuttings at the same time. For seed propagation, it is enough to sow the seed in a sandy loam soil and keep it with a high level of humidity and at a temperature of 14°C.

In conclusion, Graptosedum 'Bronze' is a beautiful, easy-to-grow succulent with striking reddish-bronze leaves that spiral around its stem. Its slow growth rate and easy propagation make it an ideal plant for succulent enthusiasts, while its unique appearance makes it a delightful addition to any indoor or outdoor garden.

We have 2 genetic variations of this plant. This is a long leaf variation of the regular Graptosedum 'Bronze' we came across when growing Bronze Delight variegata plants from leaves producing some of these reverted plants.

The main differences are this variation has noticeably more slender, longer leaves and is darker in colour, than the regular form, though both plants will produce different shades of colour depending on growing conditions. This long leaf variety also appears to branch out more quickly, while the regular form will grow a longer main stem and drape over the edge of a pot much like lavender pebbles does, This form tends to grow bushier while still growing long stems, so is also well suited as a hanging basket plant.
