Graptosedum Bronze Variegata is a colourful variegated succulent with plump, pointed leaves arranged in compact rosettes. Its foliage combines warm bronze, copper and pink tones with irregular streaks of cream, yellow and pale green. The variegation can be subtle or more pronounced depending on the individual plant, while seasonal changes in light and temperature influence the intensity of its colouring.
Foliage and Seasonal Colour
The thick, fleshy leaves have a smooth, slightly glossy surface and form neatly overlapping rosettes. Under brighter growing conditions, the foliage can develop rich pinkish-red and copper tones, while plants grown in gentler light may display softer bronze and green shades.
Unlike uniformly coloured Graptosedums, the variegated foliage contains areas with reduced chlorophyll, creating contrasting patterns that vary from leaf to leaf. This can result in slightly slower growth than non-variegated forms. Some new shoots may occasionally revert to solid bronze or green; removing these can help maintain the variegated character of the plant.
Branching and Growth Habit
This cultivar develops multiple rosettes on branching stems, gradually forming attractive clusters. As the stems lengthen, they may spread outward or become gently trailing, particularly in established plants.
Its branching habit makes it well suited to succulent bowls, mixed arrangements and containers where the individual rosettes can develop naturally. Stem cuttings can also be rooted to produce additional plants.
Botanical Background
Graptosedum is a group of intergeneric hybrids involving Graptopetalum and Sedum. Bronze Variegata is cultivated as a variegated form associated with the bronze-coloured Graptosedum commonly sold as 'Bronze' or 'Vera Higgins'.
The parentage commonly attributed to this group involves Graptopetalum paraguayense and Sedum stahlii, although cultivar names and historical identifications can vary in horticultural trade.
Cultivation and Care
Grow in a free-draining succulent mix in a position receiving bright light and some direct sunlight. Morning sun is particularly suitable, with protection from intense afternoon heat during Australian summers to reduce the risk of leaf scorch.
Water thoroughly when the growing medium has dried, allowing excess water to drain freely. Reduce watering during cooler weather and avoid prolonged wet conditions, particularly in winter. Protect from significant frost and maintain good airflow around the foliage.

Lovely pinky orange and bronze a real stunner!John and Norma always deliver with good healthy specimens and sometimes they add a little surprise , like a cutting which is so nice!!
