Graptoveria Topsy Debbie 'Lilac Spoons' is a much loved succulent that thrives in Australian conditions. This stunning plant is a cross between Graptoveria Debbie and Echeveria runyonii Topsy Turvy, resulting in its unique characteristics. With its thick, spoon-shaped leaves that grow in stemless rosettes, Topsy Debbie is a sight to behold. Its dusty lilac color adds to its allure, and the color can change depending on growing conditions. Cooler weather often brings on a more vivid appearance, but even in milder regions of Victoria, this succulent achieves great color in summer.

Topsy Debbie is a fairly rare plant to find at garden centers, but it is easy to care for even for beginners. This succulent prefers full sun, meaning at least six hours of direct sunlight on most days, to grow at its best. It is important to note that too little light can result in a leggy plant. However, providing some shade from the harsh afternoon sun, especially in the warmest parts of its growing zones, is necessary to protect it from sunburn.

Well-draining soil is essential for Topsy Debbie, making sandy or gravelly soil the ideal choice. In containers, a potting mix made specifically for succulents and cacti works best. When it comes to watering, this succulent prefers a moderate amount of water. Give it a good soak whenever the soil has almost completely dried out, ensuring that excess water is draining away from the plant. Then, refrain from watering until the soil dries out again.

Topsy Debbie can tolerate the hot temperatures of its growing zones, but it does not tolerate frost well. Therefore, planting it in a container that can be brought indoors for the winter in regions outside of its growing zones is advisable. It also prefers low to moderate humidity levels, as high humidity can cause the soil to retain too much moisture, leading to an unhealthy plant.

Fertilizing Topsy Debbie is simple, as it does not require much feeding and can survive in lean soil. However, it can benefit from an annual feeding with a succulent fertilizer in the spring as it’s entering its active growth period. The succulent typically flowers in the spring, but it may bloom again later in the year. The small flowers rise above the rosettes on thin stalks and are yellow in color.

In conclusion, Graptoveria Topsy Debbie 'Lilac Spoons' is a unique and stunning succulent that is well-suited for Australian conditions. With its easy-care requirements and moderate growth rate, this succulent is an excellent choice for beginners and experienced gardeners alike.
