Haworthia 'Xantha Gold' is an unusual cultivated Haworthia distinguished by its luminous yellow to golden-green foliage. The fleshy leaves form compact rosettes with translucent areas towards their tips, producing an especially attractive glowing appearance when viewed in good light.
Golden, translucent foliage
The foliage ranges from pale yellow-green and lime through to stronger golden-yellow according to season, light and growing conditions. Subtle greener areas provide chlorophyll while the paler pigmentation gives 'Xantha Gold' its characteristic appearance.
The fleshy leaves can become slightly less plump during dry periods and expand again after watering. Their translucent upper areas allow light into the internal tissues and are one of the characteristic features of the softer-leaved Haworthias.
Offsets and clustering growth
As plants mature they produce offsets from around the base, gradually developing into clusters of multiple rosettes. These can be left together to produce a fuller specimen or separated once sufficiently developed for propagation.
A cultivated Haworthia
'Xantha Gold' is a horticultural selection rather than a naturally occurring botanical species. Reliable documentation establishing its precise parentage and original breeder is limited, so we prefer not to assign an unconfirmed species ancestry to the cultivar.
Growing Haworthia 'Xantha Gold'
Grow in a free-draining succulent mix with bright filtered light and good airflow. Because of its unusually pale foliage, some protection from intense Australian afternoon summer sun is particularly beneficial. Excessive direct sun can scorch or discolour the leaves.
Water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet. Bright filtered light generally provides the best balance between compact growth and attractive golden colouring.

Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
