Echeveria 'Ratam' - Lg

Echeveria 'Ratam' is a Korean Echeveria cultivar with thick, pointed leaves arranged in a substantial rosette. Its foliage combines powdery blue-green tones with strongly defined pink to red margins and tips, while cooler conditions and other seasonal changes can bring out deeper crimson and purple colouring.

'Ratam' develops a particularly effective contrast between the cool blue-green body of each leaf and its warmer coloured margins. Pink is often concentrated around the edges and pointed tips, becoming progressively stronger as the plant colours under suitable growing conditions.

Seasonal changes can produce noticeably different appearances. During periods of active growth the foliage may be predominantly blue-green with softer pink edging, while stronger colour can bring deeper red, crimson and purple tones into the margins and outer portions of the leaves. These changes are a normal part of the plant's response to its growing conditions.

Powdery Farina & Defined Rosette Form

The foliage is covered with a natural layer of powdery white farina, softening the underlying colours and giving the leaves their characteristic frosted appearance. This coating is best left undisturbed, as handling can remove the farina and leave permanent marks on the leaf surface.

The thick leaves taper to distinct points and are arranged in a structured rosette, with younger growth held more tightly through the centre and older leaves gradually opening outward. Mature plants can develop into broad, well-defined rosettes while retaining their strong leaf shape and coloured margins.

We also grow an unusual Echeveria 'Ratam' Crest, in which the normal rosette growth has developed into a crested form with multiple growing points arranged along broadened, fan-like stems.

Hardy & Easy to Grow

In our nursery we have found 'Ratam' to be a hardy and reliable Echeveria that grows well under normal succulent conditions. Its substantial leaves and compact rosette respond well to good light, while seasonal changes naturally influence both the intensity of its colour and the openness of its growth.

Grow in a free-draining succulent mix with good airflow and plenty of light. Adequate light helps maintain compact growth and encourages stronger pink, red and purple colouring. Plants should be acclimatised gradually when moving from protected conditions into substantially stronger light or intense Australian summer sun.

Water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet, particularly during cooler conditions. Regular nutrition during active growth can support healthy foliage, root development and continued rosette growth.

Propagation

'Ratam' can be propagated from offsets when produced, separating them once sufficiently developed to establish independently. Mature rosettes can also be propagated from stem cuttings when required, particularly when rejuvenating older plants.
