Aeonium 'Moonburst' is a stunning variegated cultivar admired for its radiant foliage and unique colour contrasts. Believed to be a variegated sport of the popular Aeonium 'Sunburst', this compact hybrid has earned a place among collectors for its kaleidoscope of creamy yellow, apple green, and blush pink hues that intensify under sun exposure. Native to the Canary Islands like many Aeoniums, 'Moonburst' is bred for ornamental appeal and adapts well to Australian growing conditions, particularly in temperate zones with mild winters and low humidity.

Each rosette can reach up to 30 cm in diameter, forming a symmetrical whorl of spoon-shaped, leathery leaves. The central leaf stripe is a soft yellow, blending outward into vibrant green, then tipped with pink or reddish margins—especially vivid when the plant is grown in bright, indirect light or in cooler weather. Unlike its larger cousin, 'Sunburst', 'Moonburst' stays relatively compact, typically growing to around 30–60 cm tall and wide, making it well-suited for pots, raised beds, or feature spots in succulent gardens.

Aeonium 'Moonburst' has a naturally clumping habit, with new rosettes emerging below the main head. Over time, this creates a multi-headed, shrub-like appearance. However, it’s common for some offsets to revert to solid green. For best form and colour balance, these non-variegated offshoots should be trimmed away to preserve the vigour of the slower-growing variegated rosettes.

Yellow star-shaped flowers may appear on mature rosettes, typically in spring, but as with all Aeoniums, flowering heads will die off after blooming. Fortunately, healthy offsets ensure the plant’s continued growth. Provide well-draining soil and protection from extreme heat or frost for best results. Aeonium 'Moonburst' thrives in part sun to filtered light and rewards growers with bold colour and sculptural beauty year-round.
