Cereus 'Wild Thing' is a fascinating and highly variable cultivar of Cereus hildmannianus monstrose, developed by Paradisia Nurseries. Unlike typical Cereus species, this unique variety features thick, fleshy green stems with pronounced ridges and an almost spineless surface, making it exceptionally tactile and easy to handle. Its growth habit is unpredictable, ranging from fully crested (cristate) forms to multi-stemmed structures, ensuring each plant develops its own distinct character.

With its soft skin and unusual sculptural appearance, Cereus 'Wild Thing' is an excellent choice for collectors, beginners, and enthusiasts alike. When mature, it can reach up to 50 cm or more, though its size and shape depend on growing conditions. It thrives in bright, indirect light but benefits from protection against intense sun exposure. Indoors, it should be placed in a well-lit area to maintain its compact form. Watering should be moderate, with the plant growing most actively during warmer months while remaining highly drought-tolerant when dry.

Though flowering is rare in cultivation, mature specimens may produce large, fragrant white nocturnal blooms. This cultivar is best grown in well-draining soil and responds well to minimal feeding, as excessive fertiliser can lead to elongated, less structured growth. Propagation is possible from cuttings, but patience is required as new plants take time to establish. Whether grown in pots or patio displays, Cereus 'Wild Thing' adds an element of intrigue to any collection with its ever-changing, sculptural form.
