Haworthia attenuata variegata
Haworthia attenuata variegata is a variegated form of the familiar Zebra Haworthia, combining firm, tapering leaves and raised white tubercles with irregular bands and sectors of cream, yellow and green. The contrasting pigmentation makes each rosette naturally individual, with no two plants developing exactly the same pattern.
Striped and variegated foliage
The pointed leaves carry numerous raised white tubercles, often arranged into broken transverse bands across the outer leaf surfaces. Variegation adds irregular areas of cream, pale yellow and lighter green, creating considerably more colour variation than the regular green species.
The amount and distribution of variegation varies naturally from plant to plant and can also differ between offsets produced by the same parent plant.
Offsets and clustering growth
Plants produce offsets from around the base and gradually develop into attractive clusters of multiple rosettes. These offsets may show different levels of variegation and can be left attached to form a substantial specimen or separated once sufficiently developed.
Now known as Haworthiopsis attenuata
This species was traditionally known as Haworthia attenuata and remains widely sold under that familiar name. It is now botanically accepted as Haworthiopsis attenuata, with Haworthia attenuata treated as a synonym. The species is native to South Africa's Cape Provinces.
Growing Haworthia attenuata variegata
Grow in a free-draining succulent mix with bright filtered light and good airflow. Good light helps maintain compact growth and attractive variegation, although the pale portions of the leaves are more susceptible to scorching and should be protected from intense Australian afternoon summer sun.
Water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet.
