Sedum 'Joyce Tulloch'
Sedum 'Joyce Tulloch' is a compact, branching succulent subshrub with fleshy green leaves covered in very fine hairs. The foliage develops reddish to deep red tips and margins under brighter growing conditions, giving established plants a strong contrast between fresh green growth and the increasingly colourful outer portions of the leaves.
Green Foliage with Seasonal Red Colour
The closely arranged fleshy leaves have a softly textured appearance due to their covering of very short, fine hairs. New and actively growing foliage is predominantly green, while the tips and margins can gradually develop pinkish-red to deeper red colouring. The intensity varies with light, season and growing conditions, so the same plant can change noticeably through the year.
There is also a variegated form, Sedum 'Joyce Tulloch' Variegata, which combines the natural green and red colouring of the cultivar with cream to pale yellow variegation and can develop additional pink tones.
Origin of 'Joyce Tulloch'
'Joyce Tulloch' is a horticultural Sedum hybrid of uncertain origin. Sedum versadense and Sedum lucidum have been suggested as possible parents, although its precise parentage has not been definitively established. The cultivar was described by noted Sedum authority Ray Stephenson in 2004.
Compact, Branching Growth
'Joyce Tulloch' develops numerous leafy growing tips on branching stems, gradually forming a dense, multi-headed plant. Its stems can become more spreading or decumbent as they lengthen, particularly on older specimens, while occasional pruning can be used to maintain a more compact form and encourage further branching.
Healthy stem tips removed during pruning can be used for propagation. Stem cuttings are an easy way to produce additional plants, while individual leaves may also be capable of producing new growth under suitable conditions.
Growing Sedum 'Joyce Tulloch'
Grow in a free-draining succulent mix with good airflow and plenty of light. Brighter conditions help maintain compact growth and encourage the stronger red colouring characteristic of the cultivar. Plants being moved into substantially stronger light should be acclimatised gradually, particularly before exposure to intense Australian summer sun.
Water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet, particularly during cooler conditions. Regular nutrition during active growth can support healthy branching and foliage development.
Flowers
Mature plants can produce clusters of small, star-shaped white flowers carried above the foliage. The pale flowers provide a subtle contrast against the green and red leaves and typically appear from the ends of established growth.

Succulents naturally change in colour, size and form throughout the year. Many develop richer colours and more compact growth during periods of seasonal stress, particularly through cooler months and brighter conditions, while warmer or lower-light conditions may produce greener, softer growth.
The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.
Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
