Sedum Joyce Tulloch Variegata

Sale price $12.50 Regular price $14.50

Sedum 'Joyce Tulloch' Variegata is a compact, branching succulent with small fleshy leaves combining fresh green centres with creamy white to pale yellow variegation. Under suitable growing conditions the foliage develops soft pink to deeper rosy tones, creating a changing mixture of green, cream, yellow and pink across the numerous growing tips.

Green, Cream & Pink Variegation

The small fleshy leaves are closely arranged around branching stems, with cream to pale yellow variegation contrasting against the greener portions of the foliage. Pink colouring can become increasingly prominent under good light and suitable seasonal or environmental stress, while plants growing under softer conditions generally display more green and cream.

The degree of variegation can vary naturally as the plant develops. Occasionally a growing head may become extremely variegated, producing predominantly pale yellow, cream or pink foliage with very little green chlorophyll. These highly variegated heads can provide an attractive contrast within an established plant but should remain attached to greener growth, which provides the photosynthetic support they require.

About 'Joyce Tulloch'

The original Sedum 'Joyce Tulloch' is a horticultural hybrid of uncertain origin. Sedum versadense and Sedum lucidum have been suggested as possible parents, although its precise parentage has not been definitively established. The cultivar was described by noted Sedum authority Ray Stephenson in 2004.

The regular form has green foliage with reddish tips and margins that can develop much stronger red colouring under bright conditions. 'Joyce Tulloch' Variegata adds cream and pale yellow variegation to this naturally colour-responsive foliage, producing the characteristic combination of green, cream, pink and yellow.

Compact, Branching Growth

'Joyce Tulloch' Variegata develops numerous leafy growing tips on branching stems and can gradually form a dense, multi-headed plant. Stems may become longer and more spreading with age, while occasional pruning can be used to maintain a more compact form and encourage additional branching.

Healthy stem tips removed during pruning can also be used for propagation. Select variegated growth containing sufficient green tissue for independent growth, while extremely pale yellow, cream or pink heads containing virtually no green chlorophyll are best left attached to greener portions of the parent plant.

Growing Sedum 'Joyce Tulloch' Variegata

Grow in a free-draining succulent mix with bright light and good airflow. Good light helps maintain compact growth and encourages the pink colouring that can develop through the cream portions of the foliage. Plants should be gradually acclimatised before exposure to intense Australian summer sun, particularly as the paler variegated tissue can be more susceptible to excessive heat and sunlight.

Water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet, particularly during cooler conditions. Regular nutrition during active growth can help support healthy development of the variegated foliage.

Flowers

Mature plants can produce clusters of small, star-shaped flowers carried above the foliage. The regular 'Joyce Tulloch' produces white flowers, and the variegated form likewise produces small pale to white flowers that contrast with its colourful foliage.

Seasonal Colour & Plant Variation

Succulents naturally change in colour, size and form throughout the year. Many develop richer colours and more compact growth during periods of seasonal stress, particularly through cooler months and brighter conditions, while warmer or lower-light conditions may produce greener, softer growth.

The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.

Pickup Information

Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
