Sedum stahlii
Sedum stahlii, often known by its common names Coral Beads or Mexican Sedum, is a captivating succulent originating from the rocky slopes of Mexico, specifically Oaxaca, Puebla, and Veracruz. This plant, part of the extensive Crassulaceae family, features trailing stems populated with unique spherical leaves that can reach up to 1.3 cm in length and 0.8 cm in diameter. One striking characteristic is the leaves' intriguing colour range, transitioning from dark green to a russet or deep rich brown. These bead-like leaves often detach at the slightest touch, ready to root and expand this plant's vibrant coverage.
Measuring up to 30 cm across, Sedum stahlii forms an attractive and loose mat, making it an appealing addition to any landscape. Resistant to drought and adaptable to both sun and shade, this plant can truly thrive in a variety of conditions. From late spring to early summer, the Coral Beads succulent blooms, showcasing star-shaped yellow flowers up to 1.2 cm across, adding another layer of interest to this already fascinating plant.
Cultivating Sedum stahlii requires minimal care, considering its tolerance to different light levels and water quantities. In Australia, this plant can flourish in most zones, making it a versatile choice for many gardeners. Its resilience and adaptability, coupled with the striking visual interest it provides, make Sedum stahlii a plant that definitely deserves a spot in your garden or landscape.
