Sempervivum 'Tectorum Jade' is a striking succulent, known for its robust rosette structure and lime green leaves with stunning red to burgundy tips. Native to the rocky slopes of Europe, this hardy variety thrives in outdoor environments, making it perfect for Australian gardens. Its foliage darkens beautifully in strong light, giving the plant a dramatic look throughout the seasons.
This succulent produces "chicks" or offsets around its base via stolons, eventually forming a dense and attractive cluster. It grows best in part to full sun, which enhances its colour and maintains the tight, compact rosette form. Sempervivum 'Tectorum Jade' prefers gritty, well-draining soil and pots with drainage holes to avoid waterlogging.
Ideal for spring and summer growth, this plant enjoys weekly watering and may benefit from some afternoon shade during heatwaves (over 27°C). Exceptionally frost-hardy, it can tolerate cold winters, often thriving under a light snow cover. However, it's important to protect it from heavy rain and standing water, as this can lead to rot. This low-maintenance beauty is an excellent choice for both ground cover and container gardens.
