Variegation

Crassula 'Springtime' Variegated combines beautifully patterned foliage with the spectacular spring flowers that make Crassula 'Springtime' so popular. Its compact heads of fleshy green and cream leaves are attractive throughout the year, then mature plants can produce generous, rounded clusters of pink buds and delicate star-shaped blooms.

Available as Regular Variegation or Extreme Variegation. Please select your preferred variegation type from the menu above the Add to Cart button. The product images show examples of both forms; each plant has its own pattern.

Two Beautiful Variegation Options

Regular Variegation offers a lively mix of green and cream, with variegated colouring on up to around half of the foliage. In our nursery, this form has proven vigorous, hardy and straightforward to grow. It is the option we particularly recommend to beginners or anyone who wants the beauty of a variegated succulent without demanding care.

Extreme Variegation has a much greater proportion of pale yellow or cream foliage, giving it an especially striking appearance. With less green tissue to support growth, these plants are generally slower and need more careful protection from intense sun and prolonged wet conditions. They are a rewarding choice for growers who enjoy tending a more delicate variegated plant.

A Spectacular Spring Flower Display

The flowers are one of the defining pleasures of 'Springtime'. Dense, rounded clusters of buds develop gradually at the ends of mature stems. The buds are deeper in colour, ranging from warm peachy pink to richer rose pink, before opening into small, star-shaped flowers with pale pink petals and vivid pink centres.

The buds do not all open at once. As flowering progresses, darker buds sit beside newly opened blooms, while older flowers soften towards an almost white shade. This changing mixture of colours gives the display depth and allows it to unfold over an extended period rather than appearing all at once. Against the green and cream leaves of the variegated form, the pink flower clusters are especially lovely.

Compact Growth and Distinctive Leaves

Thick leaves grow in opposite pairs along short stems, forming neat, densely layered heads. Green and cream markings can appear as broad sections, fine streaks or a mixture across the same plant. As it matures, 'Springtime' can develop a fuller, gently branching shape while remaining well suited to a feature pot.

Growing Crassula 'Springtime' Variegated

Grow in bright, protected light with good airflow and a free-draining succulent mix. Gentle morning sun can help maintain compact growth, but acclimatise plants gradually and shelter the pale foliage from harsh afternoon sun during hot Australian summers. Extreme Variegation benefits from particularly careful light management.

Water thoroughly when required, allowing the mix to dry appropriately between waterings. Avoid leaving the roots wet for extended periods, especially in cool weather, and protect plants from heavy frost. For beginners, we highly recommend Regular Variegation: in our experience, it offers beautiful foliage, vigorous growth and the prospect of 'Springtime's memorable flower display.

Seasonal Colour & Plant Variation

Succulents naturally change in colour, size and form throughout the year. Many develop richer colours and more compact growth during periods of seasonal stress, particularly through cooler months and brighter conditions, while warmer or lower-light conditions may produce greener, softer growth.

The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.
