Sedum lucidum ‘Obesum’ Variegata is a distinctive, slow-growing succulent prized for its plump, glossy foliage and ever-changing colour palette. A compact form of Sedum lucidum, native to Mexico, this variegated cultivar develops tight rosettes of thick, jelly bean-shaped leaves that display a painterly blend of lime green, soft yellow, and creamy white. Under bright light, particularly during cooler conditions, the leaf tips flush with warm pinks and cherry-red tones, creating a vibrant contrast that shifts subtly through the seasons.

Growing to around 10–15 cm tall, this compact sedum forms a neat, shrubby cluster over time, making it ideal for pots, succulent arrangements, or bright windowsills. Its naturally dense growth habit helps maintain a tidy appearance without pruning, while the fleshy leaves store water efficiently, allowing it to tolerate periods of dryness. In late winter to early spring, mature plants may produce small white, star-shaped flowers with yellow centres, adding further interest.

For best results, plant in a free-draining cactus or succulent mix and position in bright light to full sun. Strong light not only maintains the plant’s compact form but also intensifies its variegation and red pigmentation. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry completely between watering cycles. In Australian conditions, it performs well outdoors in mild to warm climates but should be protected from heavy frost and prolonged wet conditions.

Sedum lucidum ‘Obesum’ Variegata is also easily propagated from stem cuttings, making it a rewarding choice for collectors and those looking to expand their succulent garden with a colourful, low-maintenance feature plant.

First time customers... Please read our Shipping Guide, in top or bottom menu, before placing your order.

Please Note:

  • All plants are sent bare rooted with no pots and soil, or minimum soil only.
  • Due to the drying process necessary for sending plants through the mail, plants may look slightly different than images shown on our website.
  • Some plants may look wrinkled when they arrive, may be somewhat limp, or soft to the touch. This is normal as they have been dried out for a number of days before shipping to avoid rotting in the mail.
  • Succulents are very hardy plants and they will recover quickly, provided you unpack them as soon as you receive them and follow the simple care instructions included with your order.

If you have any questions or concerns at all, please message us via our Facebook page at John & Norma's Succulents for the fastest response.
