Sedum dendrobium
Sedum dendroideum, commonly known as Tree Stonecrop or Bush Sedum, is a resilient, shrubby succulent native to central and southern Mexico, including regions such as Oaxaca, Puebla, Michoacán, and Veracruz. Belonging to the Crassulaceae family, this evergreen plant is admired for its sculptural form, ease of care, and seasonal colour shifts.
It typically grows to around 90 cm tall and spreads to about 1.2 metres wide, forming a dense, upright habit that can resemble a miniature succulent shrub or hedge. Its spoon-shaped, glossy green leaves cluster densely at the tips of branching stems. Under full sun or during cooler weather, the leaf margins may blush with pinkish-red tones, adding ornamental interest. A key identifying feature of Sedum dendroideum is the presence of tiny subepidermal glands along the leaf edges, often turning red in summer—unlike the similar-looking Sedum praealtum, which lacks these glands.
From late winter into early spring, this plant puts on a striking floral display, with clusters of bright yellow, star-shaped flowers held above the foliage. These blossoms are not only visually cheerful but also attract pollinators, making Sedum dendroideum a welcome addition to bee-friendly gardens.
As a succulent, it thrives in well-drained soils and is notably drought-tolerant once established. It prefers a position in full sun to part shade and tolerates light frosts, making it suitable for most Australian temperate and coastal regions with minimal protection. Propagation is simple via stem cuttings, which root easily and help the plant form a thick, shrubby colony over time.
Ideal for rockeries, succulent gardens, or as a low-maintenance border, Sedum dendroideum combines hardiness with year-round visual interest and botanical curiosity.

Succulents naturally change in colour, size and form throughout the year. Many develop richer colours and more compact growth during periods of seasonal stress, particularly through cooler months and brighter conditions, while warmer or lower-light conditions may produce greener, softer growth.
The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.
