Echeveria 'Green Emerald' Variegata is a beautifully variegated form of 'Green Emerald', combining compact, freely clustering rosettes with glaucous green, cream and pale yellow foliage. Pink to red colouring can develop along the leaf tips and variegated margins under suitable conditions, giving mature clusters an attractive mix of colours that changes throughout the year.

Distinctive Variegated Foliage

The fleshy, pointed leaves typically display glaucous green through the centre with irregular cream, ivory or pale yellow variegation. The pattern varies naturally between individual leaves and rosettes, with some offsets developing considerably more pale variegation than others. As a cluster matures, this variation can create an especially striking mixture of green, cream and highly variegated heads within the same plant.

Pink and red tones can develop around the leaf tips and through the paler sections of the foliage, particularly under stronger light and cooler seasonal conditions. At other times of year the plant may appear predominantly green and cream.

Compact Rosettes & Clustering Growth

Individual rosettes are generally compact, commonly around 7–8 cm across under our growing conditions, although well-established rosettes can reach approximately 10 cm or slightly larger. Plants readily produce offsets around the parent rosette and can gradually develop into dense, multi-headed clusters.

The amount of variegation can differ considerably between offsets. Mature clusters may occasionally produce extremely pale or heavily variegated heads, adding further contrast alongside rosettes containing a greater proportion of green.

Origins & Green Emerald

The detailed breeding history of 'Green Emerald' Variegata does not appear to be well documented. Our original plants were imported into Australia from Korea, and the cultivar appears to have originated within the Asian succulent trade. We prefer to leave its precise breeder and parentage unspecified unless reliable records become available.

For the original non-variegated form, see our Echeveria 'Green Emerald', which shares the same compact, freely clustering growth habit with predominantly green foliage.

Light & Seasonal Colour

Echeveria 'Green Emerald' Variegata is adaptable and can grow successfully in bright light through to part shade. For tighter rosettes and the strongest pink and red colouring, provide as much light as the plant can safely tolerate. Plants grown under softer light will generally remain greener and may develop somewhat more open growth.

The pale variegated portions contain less chlorophyll and can be more susceptible to sun damage than predominantly green foliage. Gradually acclimatise plants when increasing their exposure to direct sun, and provide some protection from extreme afternoon sun during very hot Australian weather if required.

Watering, Feeding & General Care

Grow in a free-draining succulent mix and water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry well between waterings. Avoid prolonged wet conditions, particularly during cooler weather. Good airflow is also beneficial as clusters become increasingly dense.

Regular light feeding during active growth can be beneficial, particularly for plants producing strongly or extremely variegated growth. Because the cream and pale yellow areas contain less chlorophyll, heavily variegated rosettes have less green tissue available for photosynthesis and can benefit from additional nutritional support. Use a suitable balanced succulent fertiliser at a moderate strength, adjusting the frequency according to the plant's growth and condition rather than feeding to a rigid schedule.

Seasonal Colour & Plant Variation

Succulents naturally change in colour, size and form throughout the year. Many develop richer colours and more compact growth during periods of seasonal stress, particularly through cooler months and brighter conditions, while warmer or lower-light conditions may produce greener, softer growth.

The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.
