Aeonium Inferno is a truly unique and striking succulent that will make a wonderful addition to any collection. This compact plant typically grows to around 15-20 cm in height and spreads out to a width of 25-30 cm. Its standout feature is undoubtedly the leaves, which have intense colours of deep purple with vibrant pink margins. The centre of the leaves is green and white, which provides an eye-catching contrast to the darker colours.

One of the most fascinating characteristics of Aeonium Inferno is the somewhat distorted leaf margins that are characteristic of this cultivar. This succulent undergoes colour changes throughout the seasons, with pale pinks, greens and cream tones in winter, deep burgundy shades in spring, and deep pink with cream trims in summer. While the new growth of this cultivar may superficially resemble that of Aeonium 'Mardi Gras,' the Inferno produces much darker colours than Mardi Gras, which makes it stand out in any collection.

Aeonium Inferno requires good direct light to bring out its best colours, although too much sun exposure can cause the colours to become washed out. Therefore, it is best to grow it in a location where it is given some summer sun protection. The plant is actively growing in the cooler months, waking up in late autumn and growing rapidly throughout winter and spring. It is best to propagate Aeoniums in late autumn when they begin waking up in Queensland, as this gives them the longest growth period for the entire year.

Although the origins of Aeonium Inferno are somewhat unclear, it is believed to be a variegated sport of Aeonium 'Short Black.' Unfortunately, there is now another variegated Aeonium being sold under the name 'Inferno' in Asia, which has caused some confusion among collectors. However, the original Inferno is a truly special plant that is sure to impress.

In summary, Aeonium Inferno is a compact and unique succulent that requires good direct light and some summer sun protection. Its striking leaf colours and distorted margins make it a standout in any collection, and its colour changes throughout the seasons are mesmerizing. It is a hardy plant that is easy to care for and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings. With its stunning colours and interesting features, Aeonium Inferno will make a great addition to any succulent collection.
