Aeonium arboreum cv. 'Kilimanjaro' is a dramatic and newly released cultivar bred by Australian succulent expert Wayne Turville. This compact hybrid, derived from Aeonium arboreum, produces vivid rosettes with rich, fiery tones reminiscent of molten lava—hence its occasional nickname, the “Volcano Succulent.” Each fleshy, spoon-shaped leaf takes on rich red tones in strong light, with a subtle waxy coating that intensifies its vivid appearance.

Rosettes can reach up to 15 cm across and sit atop sturdy, upright stems that grow to around 50 cm in height. The plant develops numerous offsets as it matures, naturally forming a dense, shrub-like clump. If trimmed, new heads emerge readily at the cut sites, making it easy to shape or propagate. In autumn, mature stems may bear tall conical spikes adorned with bright yellow, star-shaped flowers—an ornamental bonus, though the foliage remains the main attraction.

Ideal for pots, borders, rockeries or succulent gardens, Aeonium 'Kilimanjaro' thrives in full sun to part shade. Indoors, it needs a bright, sunny spot to maintain its form and colouring. This cultivar grows most actively in the cooler months and can be watered year-round, though it's tolerant of short dry spells. A low-nitrogen fertiliser applied at 25% strength monthly during growth will enhance colour and compactness. Use any well-draining potting mix, and repot during the warmer months if desired.

Easy to grow and visually bold, Aeonium 'Kilimanjaro' is a stunning addition to any succulent collection.
