Aeonium tabuliforme 'Hime Meikyou'
Aeonium tabuliforme 'Hime Meikyou', also affectionately known as Aeonium 'Fairy Lights', captivates with its remarkable foliage and dense clustering habit. This succulent is a hybrid marvel, derived from the cross between Aeonium undulatum and Aeonium arboreum, and it exemplifies the unique beauty of the Aeonium genus in a compact form. The plant forms lush rosettes up to 10 cm in diameter, showcasing spoon-shaped, fleshy leaves that combine a vivid green center with hints of pink, yellow, and cream, all framed by a dramatic deep red or purple edge. The leaves' tips often blush bright pink under direct sunlight, adding a striking contrast.
Cultivation of Aeonium 'Hime Meikyou' is as delightful as its appearance. This succulent thrives in bright, indirect light and flourishes in well-draining soil, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings in Australia's diverse climates. It reaches up to 30 cm in height and is crowned with small, star-shaped flowers in tones of white, yellow, or green during its blooming period, adding yet another layer of visual interest.
Ideal for enthusiasts of all skill levels, from novices to expert gardeners, Aeonium 'Hime Meikyou' is notably low-maintenance. It does require good air circulation around the rosettes to prevent fungal issues, so ensuring sufficient space and adequate drainage is key to its care. Whether used as a standout container specimen or as part of a mixed succulent display, Aeonium 'Hime Meikyou' offers a charming and vibrant presence in any plant collection, enhancing the natural beauty of any garden or home.
