This particular variety is a cluster-forming plant with densely stacked leaves that are strongly variegated with an attractive golden-yellow coloration, which contrasts sharply with its normal green growth. It is a highly prized specimen in horticulture and is usually only available in specialist nurseries.

Crassula dejecta variegata is a mountain plant that is native to South Africa, occurring in the mountain chain that stretches from Riviersonderend to the Cederberg in the Western Cape, with some populations occurring further north near Springbok in the Northern Cape. It prefers shady conditions and should be grown under a minimum of 60% shade cloth. It should be planted in a well-draining soil mix that does not stay moist for more than a few days, and watered well in spring and summer.

This plant grows up to 16 cm tall, with leaves that are slightly fleshy, green, often tinged red, with a row of rounded, bead-like hairs on the margins that give the leaves a silvery edge. They are arranged densely in neat rows up the erect stems, giving a tidy, geometric effect. Flowers are white, sometimes tinged pink, with red sepals, red ovaries that color the center of the open flowers red, and red anthers that age to brown. They are carried in tight, flat to round-topped clusters at the ends of the branches during midsummer. The flowers develop into small capsules, each holding many tiny seeds.

Crassula dejecta variegata is not only an attractive plant, but it is also easy to care for. It is a perfect choice for beginner succulent enthusiasts who want to add some variety to their collection. With its striking appearance and low maintenance requirements, it is sure to be a great addition to any garden or home.
