Echeveria 'Cubic Frost' Crest Variegata is an extraordinary crested and variegated form of the popular hybrid Echeveria ‘Cubic Frost’, itself a cultivar bred for its chubby, twisting leaves and pastel colouration. In this rare variegated crested form, the plant abandons the classic rosette in favour of a sculptural, coral-like crest composed of dense, undulating foliage in delicate shades of cream, soft lavender, and blue-green. A generous coating of powdery farina adds a silvery sheen and helps protect the plant in high light conditions.
Unlike standard growth habits, the crested form develops along a fasciated ridge, producing a wide, fan-like shape where multiple growth points merge along a single line. This mutation results in a more compact, mound-forming structure and offers an arresting architectural appearance ideal for collectors or design-focused arrangements.
The variegation is equally captivating—some leaves may appear more cream-toned, while others carry gentle hues of lilac or green-blue. Stress from cooler weather or high light can trigger blushing tones of pink, purple, or even pale gold, enhancing the plant’s already painterly palette. Each specimen is slightly different, with no two crests forming identically, making this a highly desirable collector’s plant.
Echeveria 'Cubic Frost' Crest Variegata thrives in bright but indirect light, favouring morning sun or dappled exposure, especially in the warmer Australian climates. Good airflow and sharply draining soil are essential, as with all Echeverias, along with deep but infrequent watering to prevent root rot. Protect from heavy frost—ideal temperatures are above 5°C.
This cultivar, believed to originate from hybrid lines within Mexico, is a testament to the diversity within the Echeveria genus and an excellent choice for collectors seeking something truly sculptural and one-of-a-kind.
