About Echeveria ‘Blue Curls’ Crested

Echeveria ‘Blue Curls’ Crested is an unusual fasciated form of the popular Echeveria ‘Blue Curls’. Instead of developing as a single symmetrical rosette, the growing point broadens and produces multiple closely packed growth points along a crest, creating the distinctive ruffled, sculptural form seen in mature specimens.

The powdery blue-green foliage develops attractive pink to reddish tones along the curled leaf margins, with colour becoming more pronounced under good light and seasonal conditions. As the crest expands, individual sections can twist, branch and develop in different directions, meaning no two mature plants are ever exactly alike.

Given time, the crested form can develop into an impressive specimen considerably larger and more complex than the cutting from which it began. Mature crests may reach around 40–50 cm across or more under favourable conditions, creating a striking feature plant for pots or succulent collections.

Growing from Crested Cuttings

Echeveria ‘Blue Curls’ Crested grows particularly well from stem cuttings, allowing you to establish a mature crested specimen while retaining the fascinating fasciated growth of the parent material. Unlike a conventional single-rosette cutting, a crested cutting may contain numerous growing points that continue developing along the crest as it establishes.

Allow any freshly cut surface to dry and callus before planting into a free-draining succulent mix. Keep the cutting in a bright, protected position while it establishes and water sparingly at first, allowing the growing medium to dry between waterings. Once established and actively growing, it can gradually be introduced to stronger light to encourage compact growth and richer colouring.

Part of the appeal of growing ‘Blue Curls’ Crested from a cutting is watching its individual form develop. Some sections may broaden into substantial fans, while others branch, curve or produce clusters of rosette-like growth. This natural variation is characteristic of fasciation and gives each established plant its own distinctive shape and character.
