Echeveria 'Fantastic Fountain' is a truly unique succulent that is a game-changer in the world of Echeveria hybrids. This Taiwanese succulent starts out looking like a normal Echeveria, but as it matures, it grows taller, displaying a remarkable fountain-like formation. The mounding, downturned foliage takes on beautiful dusky shades as it grows up to 30cm tall. As the plant grows, the silver-lilac center leaves emerge outwards to create a tightly-layered waterfall effect all the way along its stem. Baby 'pup' plants at the base, like splashes of water, complete the fountain effect.
This succulent is hardy and drought-tolerant once established and is great for rockeries, pots, and indoors. However, it is not as sun-tolerant as some other Echeveria and can burn if placed in a sunny position. Therefore, it requires a well-lit position with indirect light and protection from hot afternoon sun. In Australia, it can tolerate low nutrient levels or be grown with lots of feed and water.
Echeveria 'Fantastic Fountain' is easy to grow and care for, requiring a gritty free-draining potting mix or soil and minimal water. It requires a fairly bright position for best coloration and a position free from frost. A well-lit area inside is also suitable for these plants, making them extremely versatile for landscaping or enjoying indoors in terrariums or pots.
This succulent is a medium-sized plant that can grow up to 15-30cm in height and 15cm in width, depending on the grower. It benefits from a regular head cut every 18 months to 2 years. Echeveria 'Fantastic Fountain' readily offsets, so you can propagate it by removing and replanting the smaller plants around the base of large plants.
Overall, Echeveria 'Fantastic Fountain' is an extremely rewarding plant when grown well. Its unique and stunning fountain-like formation is sure to excite succulent collectors and enthusiasts alike. It is a must-have addition to any succulent lover's collection and will stand the test of time as a standout succulent.
