Kalanchoe blossfeldiana
Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, commonly called Flaming Katy, is a charming, perennial succulent native to Madagascar, celebrated for its glossy, scalloped foliage and brilliant floral displays. This compact, bushy plant grows to around 15–45 cm tall and 15–30 cm wide, making it perfectly suited for pots, hanging baskets, and garden borders.
The foliage is a deep, glossy green with gently scalloped edges that may develop subtle reddish tones when grown in strong sunlight. Its dense, upright form is easy to maintain and provides a lush backdrop to the true star of the plant—the flowers. From winter through spring, Flaming Katy produces clusters of dainty, star-shaped blooms held in showy umbels above the foliage. Flowers last for weeks, brightening spaces with their colour. While this species is available in shades of red, orange, yellow, white, and pink, the plants we offer are the pink-flowered form, admired for its cheerful, soft-toned display.
This succulent thrives in bright, indirect light to full sun and requires minimal water, preferring the soil to dry completely between waterings. It does best in well-draining soil and, being frost-tender, is suited to warmer regions of Australia or as an indoor plant in cooler climates. Its ability to bloom in winter makes it especially popular for adding colour when most other plants are dormant.
Propagation is straightforward via stem or leaf cuttings, allowing growers to share or expand their collection easily. It is worth noting that all parts of Kalanchoe are toxic if ingested, particularly to pets and livestock.

Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
