Kalanchoe Pumila also known as the Flower Dust Plant, is probably the plant that started our love affair with succulents. Given to us by a close cousin more than 10 years ago, she had a massive one growing in a shallow bowl on a stand. It was cascading over the sides and she couldn't speak more highly of it. Now we cant speak more highly of it either.
Kalanchoe pumila, is an alluring, small shrubby succulent native to Madagascar. This eye-catching plant can grow up to 20 cm in height, making it an ideal choice for adding texture and color to gardens or as a captivating houseplant.
The foliage of Kalanchoe pumila is a true standout feature. Its succulent, obovate leaves are arranged in opposite pairs along the stem and are adorned with a powdery white-green hue. The unique white bloom covering the leaves is delicate and can be easily rubbed or washed off. The crenate leaf margins have a beautiful purple tint, adding even more charm to this plant.
Flowering from late winter to early spring, Kalanchoe pumila produces captivating purple-pink flowers similar to those of Kalanchoe eriophylla. These bisexual blooms are urn-shaped and appear in clusters, enhancing the overall appeal of the plant. The flowers are further adorned with red to purple veins and striking yellow anthers, providing a pleasant contrast to the foliage.
As a low-growing, dwarf plant, Kalanchoe pumila is an excellent choice for rock gardens, container plantings, or as a ground cover in well-drained soils. With its exceptional cascading growth habit, it also makes an outstanding choice for a hanging basket. It thrives in sunny to partially shaded locations and requires a minimum temperature of 12 °C to grow, making it suitable for Australian gardens in temperate regions.

Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.

My Kalanchoe Pumila arrived in great condition. She seems to have settle in well to summer in Canberra. After seeing her, I can understand how she started you off with your love of succulents.
