Echeveria 'Cubic Frost' Crest, is a a rare and stunning mutation of the original 'Cubic Frost' created by Renee O'Connell as a cross between Echeveria 'Doppler' and an unnamed Echeveria referred to as R-21
This crested form adds even more beauty and uniqueness to this already special succulent plant. The new crested form produces a fan-like arrangement of rosettes with multiple crests, creating a truly one-of-a-kind appearance that is highly sought after by collectors and succulent enthusiasts.
The leaves of the Echeveria 'Cubic Frost' Crest are the same frosty blue-grey color as the original, but the unique cresting mutation creates a more compact growth habit with much smaller leaves that are tightly knit together. Despite its rarity, this crested version produces clusters of smaller crests and sometimes reverted heads which can be removed and propagated if desired.
In terms of care, Echeveria 'Cubic Frost' Crest requires similar conditions to the original. It prefers full sun to part shade and should be protected from strong sun during heatwaves to prevent leaf burning. The plant is not frost hardy and should be brought indoors once frosts are expected.
Watering should be done only when the potting mix has completely dried up, as over watering can cause root rot. Fertilize the plant once a month during the growing season with specific fertilizers for cacti to encourage healthy growth. Re-potting should be done once a year in fresh succulent potting mix.
Propagation of Echeveria 'Cubic Frost' Crest is no more challenging than the original, as it can be just as easily propagated from offsets or cuttings much the same as the regular form.
In conclusion, Echeveria 'Cubic Frost' Crested is a rare and stunning mutation that adds even more beauty and uniqueness to an already special hybrid. Its fan-like arrangement of rosettes and multiple crests make it highly sought after by collectors and succulent enthusiasts. While caring for this crested version may require a bit more attention, it is well worth it for the joy and wonder it brings.
