Sempervivum ‘Lavender and Old Lace’ is an elegant evergreen succulent of the genus Sempervivum, admired for its silvery-gray rosettes touched with fine silver hairs. Throughout the seasons, its foliage shifts in colour, displaying soft lavender-pink, rosy highlights, and subtle lavender tones that give the plant its distinctive, vintage charm. This cultivar is highly regarded among collectors and even won the prestigious Gold Rosette Award in 1975 for its ornamental qualities.

Forming low, mat-like cushions, ‘Lavender and Old Lace’ develops medium to large rosettes, usually around 10–15 cm across, which gradually spread by producing offsets. Over time, it creates plush carpets of clustered rosettes that bring texture and colour to garden beds, troughs, containers, or rockeries. Its combination of durability and beauty makes it a versatile choice for succulent displays.

Caring for Sempervivum ‘Lavender and Old Lace’ is simple and well-suited to Australian conditions. It thrives in full sun to partial shade, with at least several hours of bright light needed to maintain its compact form and enhance its delicate lavender tones. A gritty, free-draining soil mix is essential to prevent root rot, and planting in rockeries or sandy soil works particularly well. Water sparingly, always allowing the soil to dry between waterings, and reduce moisture further during summer dormancy. Notably, this cultivar is both drought- and frost-tolerant, enduring cold winter conditions with ease.

In summer, mature rosettes may produce clusters of star-shaped pink flowers held above the foliage on slender stems. After flowering, the rosette naturally dies back, but surrounding offsets quickly fill in, keeping the colony full and vibrant. With its pastel hues, architectural rosettes, and easy-going care, Sempervivum ‘Lavender and Old Lace’ remains a timeless favourite for succulent enthusiasts and collectors alike.
