Sempervivum Pittoni, commonly known as the Pittoni houseleek, is a remarkable succulent that is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. Originating from the eastern Alps of Austria, this perennial plant is a local endemic of two mountains in Styria, where it exclusively grows on serpentine rock. The plant forms a mat of rosettes, with single heads growing to around 10 cm in diameter, while clumps can measure much larger.

What makes Sempervivum Pittoni truly special is its amazing coloration when grown under conditions of low nutrients or stress. Normally, this plant has green leaves with red tips. However, under conditions of low nutrients or stress, the leaves transition  From lime green to bright lemon yellow away from the crown, gradually softening to coral and then soft pink, finishing with its distinctive red tips. This striking combination and transitioning of colors is what makes this succulent so unique and highly sought after. The color variation and beauty of this plant are sure to catch the eye of any plant enthusiast.

Aside from its striking appearance, Sempervivum Pittoni is also highly valued for its hardiness and low maintenance requirements, making it an ideal plant for beginners and experts alike. It is cold hardy and can withstand extreme temperatures, making it adaptable to a variety of climates.

The plant is also known for its clumping habit, which creates a beautiful, mat-like texture that is perfect for groundcover or rock gardens. Sempervivum Pittoni has been recognized by the Royal Horticultural Society with the Award of Garden Merit, a testament to its exceptional qualities and beauty.
