Aeonium castello-paivae 'Suncup', also known as Aeonium castello-paivae 'Harry Mak', or just Aeonium 'Suncup', is a stunning succulent featuring variegated rosettes with stripes of creamy yellow and green. This smaller variety of Aeonium grows up to 30cm tall and wide, producing a clump of branching offsets. The leaves are fleshy, cream, striped with green and cream or yellow, and have pink margins in full sun. During summer, the plant produces greenish-white flowers that appear in clusters.
To thrive, Aeonium 'Suncup' needs well-draining soil and should be kept away from reflected heat. It is a low-maintenance plant that requires infrequent watering and can be grown in full sun or partial shade. Propagation from stem cuttings is easy, making it accessible for home gardeners to cultivate.
This striking succulent is often used in rock gardens, succulent gardens, and as a potted houseplant. Its variegated foliage and unique growth habit make it a popular choice among succulent enthusiasts. Although the extreme variegated offshoots of Aeonium castello-paivae 'Suncup' cannot be propagated due to the lack of green pigment in the leaves for photosynthesis, they do occur sporadically, providing a chance for enthusiasts to grow this plant's extreme variegation. Please note: This plant is sensitive to touch. When we handle them for packaging the underside of the leaves turn blue wherever they have been touched. It does not harm the plant and will grow out but is unsightly so please consider before purchasing.
