Crassula rupestris 'High Voltage', from the Crassulaceae family, stands up to 8 cm tall and 5 cm wide. This compact succulent captivates with its distinctive structure and dynamic leaf colouration.
The 'High Voltage' features an upright stem branching from its base, adorned with rosette clusters of fleshy, triangular leaves. These leaves transition in colour throughout the year. During the cooler months and winter, they exhibit shades of lime green, lighter midleaf and darker towards the edges. With increased sunlight, the leaves morph to a pale yellow at the midleaf, with vibrant yellow on new growth and bright red leaf tips and margins. This striking contrast sets the 'High Voltage' apart from other varieties.
Notably, the 'High Voltage' thrives under full sun all year round in most parts of Australia, responding to the intense light with intensified leaf colouration.
Beyond its vibrant foliage, Crassula rupestris 'High Voltage' offers clusters of petite, star-shaped flowers from early spring to late summer. These flowers range from pure white to a delicate pink, influenced by environmental conditions.
Cultivation requirements for the 'High Voltage' include well-draining soil, a mix of fertile loam, pumice, and coarse sand in equal proportions, and regular but moderate watering during its vegetative phase. Complete soil dryness between waterings and temperatures between 10 - 15 °C promote a beneficial dormancy period.
Propagating this vibrant succulent, often done through stem cutting, is a rewarding process. The 'High Voltage' is a striking and resilient plant that thrives even under challenging conditions, making it a valuable addition to any succulent collection.
