Haworthia mucronata
Haworthia mucronata is a charming, small-growing succulent native to the Little Karoo and parts of the Eastern Cape in South Africa. Forming dense clumps of stemless rosettes, this species reaches up to 12 cm in diameter and is well-known for its soft, fleshy leaves that range from pale green to yellow-green, often blushing pink under strong light. The leaves are pointed (as suggested by the Latin epithet mucronata), slightly incurved, and lined with translucent margins and keels, often fringed with tiny white bristles—though this feature varies between local forms.
This plant belongs to the Asphodelaceae family and sits within the soft-leaved group of Haworthia, often confused with similar species like Haworthia cooperi and Haworthia cymbiformis. It also hybridises naturally with Haworthia arachnoidea, creating a fascinating continuum in the wild. The rosettes proliferate by offsets, forming tight clumps over time—perfect for container displays or low-maintenance indoor gardens.
In spring, Haworthia mucronata sends up a delicate inflorescence reaching around 40 cm tall, adorned with small white flowers marked by subtle grey-green keels. Best grown in bright but filtered light, this plant thrives with well-draining soil and infrequent watering. It prefers mild to warm temperatures, tolerating short periods as low as -1 °C, making it suitable for protected outdoor areas in temperate parts of Australia or as a resilient windowsill plant.

Succulents naturally change in colour, size and form throughout the year. Many develop richer colours and more compact growth during periods of seasonal stress, particularly through cooler months and brighter conditions, while warmer or lower-light conditions may produce greener, softer growth.
The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.
Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
