Aeonium 'Anna' Variegata
Aeonium 'Anna' Variegata is a spectacular variegated succulent, admired for its beautifully layered rosettes and striking combination of green, creamy yellow, pink and deep burgundy-red foliage. The contrast between its fresh, pale centres and richly coloured outer leaves creates an almost floral appearance, making this a particularly eye-catching Aeonium.
Beautiful Variegation and Rich Colour
The broad, spoon-shaped leaves display attractive green centres bordered by creamy yellow variegation. As the foliage matures and develops stronger pigmentation, brilliant pink and red tones appear along the margins, with the outer leaves often deepening to rich burgundy.
The resulting contrast is quite remarkable, with soft green and cream at the heart of each rosette surrounded by increasingly intense shades of pink and red. Delicately fringed leaf margins provide additional definition, highlighting the elegant, overlapping arrangement of the foliage.
Growth Habit and Seasonal Changes
Aeonium 'Anna' Variegata develops attractive rosettes on branching stems, gradually producing a fuller, multi-headed plant as it matures. Its colourful foliage and architectural form make it an excellent feature in decorative pots, succulent arrangements and sheltered garden displays.
Like many Aeoniums, its appearance changes with the seasons. Bright growing conditions and cooler temperatures can encourage stronger red and pink pigmentation, while fresh growth often displays more prominent green and cream colouring. During hot summer weather, the rosettes may become more compact as the plant naturally slows its growth.
Growing Aeonium 'Anna' Variegata
This beautiful Aeonium thrives in bright, sheltered positions with gentle morning sunlight or filtered sun. Good light helps maintain its attractive colouring, although the pale variegated sections can be more susceptible to scorching, making protection from harsh Australian afternoon sun particularly important during summer.
Plant in a well-draining succulent potting mix and water when the soil has dried sufficiently, taking care not to leave the roots sitting in prolonged moisture. Aeoniums generally grow most actively during the cooler months, so watering should be adjusted as growth slows during hot summer conditions. Protect from frost, provide good airflow and avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat.
With its extraordinary colour contrasts, elegant rosettes and attractive branching habit, Aeonium 'Anna' Variegata makes a wonderful addition to any collection of colourful and unusual succulents.
