Aeonium sedifolium Variegated is an exceptionally colourful form of one of the smallest and most distinctive Aeonium species. Its miniature rosettes combine green, cream and soft yellow variegation with pink, red and burgundy markings, creating remarkable detail in a plant that remains naturally compact.

Miniature Rosettes & Intricate Colour

Unlike the broad, flat foliage of many larger Aeoniums, this plant produces tiny, plump leaves arranged into closely packed rosettes. The foliage has the slightly sticky texture characteristic of A. sedifolium, while variegation introduces cream and pale yellow areas that can become beautifully flushed with pink.

Red to burgundy streaking and margins add another layer of colour. Light, temperature, season and the amount of chlorophyll present in individual rosettes all influence the final appearance, so established plants can display an extraordinary mixture of colours at the same time.

Variegated Form of Aeonium sedifolium

This plant is the variegated counterpart of Aeonium sedifolium. Both share the same miniature branching habit and characteristic red-marked foliage, but the variegated form adds cream, yellow and pink pigmentation and generally grows more slowly because its lighter foliage contains less chlorophyll.

Compact, Bonsai-Like Growth

As the plant matures, its stems gradually branch and become more woody, carrying numerous tiny rosettes above them. Older specimens can develop the appearance of a miniature succulent tree, making this an especially rewarding Aeonium to grow as a feature container specimen.

Growing Conditions

Grow in a bright position with excellent drainage. Good light encourages compact growth and stronger colour, but highly variegated sections can be more sensitive to intense summer sun, so some afternoon protection may be beneficial during extreme Australian heat.

Growth is strongest through the cooler months. During hot summer weather the plant may become much less active, so reduce watering accordingly and avoid prolonged wet soil. Because this variegated form is relatively slow growing, patience is rewarded as its branching structure develops over time.
