Cereus 'Ming Thing', known botanically as Cereus validus 'Ming Thing', is a captivating succulent that stands out in any plant enthusiast's collection. This monstrose form of Cereus validus features dense, bizarrely shaped blue-green stems that create an intriguing sculptural display. Each stem can grow up to 30 cm tall and 15 cm wide, sporting club-like, knobby projections that are both visually striking and tactilely interesting.

The monstrose characteristic of Cereus 'Ming Thing' refers to its naturally occurring mutant growth patterns, which produce these irregular and fascinating forms. The stems are adorned with woolly areoles and short black spines, adding to its exotic allure. Often listed under synonyms such as Cereus forbesii 'Ming Thing' and Cereus forbesii monstrose, this plant is a conversation piece that brings a touch of the extraordinary to any setting.

Thriving in cooler, shaded environments unlike most sun-loving cacti, Cereus 'Ming Thing' prefers temperatures ranging from 21°C to 26°C, making it ideal for indoor cultivation in Australia. It requires minimal watering—only when the soil has completely dried out, approximately every two to four weeks during the growth season and even less frequently during the winter months.

Cereus 'Ming Thing' is relatively low maintenance. It benefits from occasional repotting when it outgrows its pot, using a well-draining soil mix in a clay pot with sufficient drainage holes to avoid waterlogging. During the growing season, a balanced fertilizer can help enhance its growth and overall health. Propagation is easily achieved by cutting a piece of its stem and replanting in suitable cactus soil, allowing enthusiasts to share and expand their collections of this quirky and charming plant.
