Crassula 'Emerald' is a captivating hybrid resulting from a cross between Crassula barklyi and Crassula susannae, likely discovered as a chance seedling in the collection of John Cooper. This small, slow-growing succulent forms a dense clump of stems adorned with tightly packed, emerald-green leaves that can shift to a ruby-red hue during the warmer months.

The plant's compact rosettes, reminiscent of its parent species, grow up to 5 cm tall and display a striking texture that makes Crassula 'Emerald' an excellent choice for a bright windowsill or a protected outdoor spot. In winter, it produces clusters of delicate white flowers at the tips of its conical stalks, adding seasonal interest to its year-round charm.

Crassula 'Emerald' thrives in well-drained soil and requires minimal watering, making it highly drought-tolerant. Overwatering can be fatal, so it's best to err on the side of dryness. It's advisable to water from below, ensuring any excess water is drained to prevent root rot. This succulent can be propagated easily through leaf cuttings or division, and it benefits from repotting during the warmer months.

For optimal growth, place Crassula 'Emerald' in a sunny position indoors or a partly shaded, protected spot outdoors. It's hardy in Australian zones equivalent to USDA zones 10a to 11b, tolerating temperatures from about -1.1°C to 10°C.

With its robust form, seasonal color changes, and charming blooms, Crassula 'Emerald' is a delightful addition to any succulent collection, offering visual appeal and ease of care for both novice and experienced gardeners.
